New Acquisitions
New Acquisitions gathers the most recent additions to the permanent collection, works that entered the institution in the autumn of 2026 and are presented here for the first time. Though they emerge from distinct moments, a Leipzig cantor's study and a San Francisco ballroom, the two works share a preoccupation with the instruments of transmission: the patch cable, the concert bill, the printed score.
Each artist returns to a figure whose meaning was thought to be settled and reopens the question of where that figure belongs. In both, devotion is the medium and displacement the method. The juxtaposition foregrounds the institution's continuing commitment to the vernacular as a site of serious inquiry, and to the archive as something unfinished. The works are hung without hierarchy. Visitors are invited to move between them as the collection itself does, across centuries, without apology.
